Dulles Sportsplex Adult Roller Hockey: New Player FAQ
1. What skill levels are available?
We offer four distinct divisions to ensure competitive balance across the league:
Bronze South (Lowest): Designed for beginners, players new to the sport, or those returning to the rink after a long hiatus. The focus is on fun and learning the game.
Bronze North (Intermediate/Low): For players who have mastered the basics and are looking for a slightly faster pace than Bronze South, but still maintain a recreational atmosphere.
Silver (Intermediate): A solid, mid-level tier for experienced players with good puck handling, positioning, and skating ability.
Gold (High Level): Our most competitive division. This is high-paced hockey intended for advanced players with significant experience.
2. When are the games played?
Our schedule is season-based and depends on facility rentals and other Sportsplex commitments. However, our typical game blocks are:
Sundays: Between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
Mondays: 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM start.
3. What equipment is required?
To ensure player safety, the following HECC-approved equipment is mandatory:
Inline skates (non-marking wheels preferred)
HECC-approved helmet (visors or cages highly recommended)
Hockey gloves, elbow pads, and shin guards
Standard hockey stick
Internal mouth guard and athletic cup
4. How much does it cost to play?
Full Team Registration:$1,600. We offer an Early Full Payment Discount, bringing the total to $1,500 if paid in full by the priority deadline.
Individual (Free Agent): Generally between $160–$220 per season. The final cost is calculated based on the total player count for the house team.
Note: All players must have a valid insurance membership (e.g., AAU).
5. How long is the season?
Each season includes 10 regular-season games plus 1 guaranteed playoff game. Teams that advance to the championship can play up to 2 additional games. Depending on rink availability and facility commitments, a full season typically spans 3–4 months.
6. Where are games located?
All games are held at the Dulles Sportsplex in Dulles, VA. We play on a professional-grade indoor surface.
7. I don’t have a team. Can I still play?
Absolutely! We maintain a Free Agent List. Captains often look for permanent additions or weekly subs. Send us your name, contact info, and preferred skill level to be added to the list.
8. What are the league's conduct expectations?
We pride ourselves on a "compete hard, but respect the game" culture. Fighting, excessive rough play, or abuse of officials will not be tolerated and may result in a permanent league ban.
